I am a commercial finance and mortgage broker and work along side Dave Hogg, one of the founder members of Home Buyer Financial Solutions (HBFS). As to my/our investment situation; my wife and I, Sheila, have been quietly buying houses in Yorkshire for some years now with the objective of providing a reliable pension income for our retirement. We are well into double figures and I can genuinely say that we have lovely people as our tenants. We will never ever sell our properties and we hope our tenants stay with us for as long as possible (we look after them well). We are members of the Sheffield Responsible Landlords Scheme and play an active part in promoting the high standards and ideals of this organisation.

Prior to my current job I was an IFA and was regulated by the FSA to giving honest and unbiased advice to people about their particular financial circumstances and aspirations. I adopt the same approach when I meet our HFBC enquirers and sometimes my recommendation is simply to restructure their lending. On other occasions it might be appropriate to suggest ways in which they might want to make the money they receive endure or even grow.

During the time we have been involved in helping people in these circumstances Sheila and I have found it very gratifying to have such a positive effect on people's lives.
